A Father's Prayer

主啊,请陶冶我的儿子,使他成为一个坚强的人,能夠知道自己什么時候是软弱的;
使他成为一个勇敢的人,能夠在畏惧的時候认清自己,谋求补救;

请陶冶我的儿子,使他不要以愿望代替实际作为;

请陶冶我的儿子,使他的心地纯洁,目标高超;
在企图驾驭他人之前,先能驾驭自己;

A Father's Prayer

Build me a son, O Lord,
who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid;
one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,
and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son
whose wishes will not be take the place of deeds;
a son who will know thee and
that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

Lead him, I pray,
not in the path of ease and comfort,
but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.
Here, let him learn to stand up in the storm;
here, let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son
whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high;
a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;
one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his,
add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor,
so that he may always be serious,
yet never take himself too seriously.

Give him humility,
so that he may always remember
the simplicity of true greatness,
the open mind of true wisdom,
and the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper,
"I have not lived in vain".

Practical steps to help Control our tongue(words)

First of all, you must agree with this, I cannot control my tongue, but Christ can control what I say through me. Yes, your emotions are hitting sixteen when they are designed to stop at ten! Your whole body is screaming for release and steam is fairly billowing from your ears. I understand that. But if Christ cannot control my tongue, then He is not omnipotent! It is that simple. If there is anything where He is limited, then He is not God! What to do? Practical steps: 1. Practice the presence of God in your life every second of the day. 2. Practice allowing Him to face the small issues'then when a BIG one comes you will have practiced for it. 3. Avoid confrontations when you are emotionally drained, exhausted, or not feeling well. Just retreat and say, "Let's discuss this later." 4. Isolate yourself until the steam stops coming out your ears! 5. Bite your tongue if necessary to keep it from spewing out invectives,expletives, or half-truths 6. Never use the words "YOU NEVER" or "YOU ALWAYS." 7. Begin thanking God for His power to overcome, for controlling you, for giving you insight, for fighting this battle for you. 8. Stop reliving the incident again and again. "I should have said... What did she mean with that remark? He always lies about everything! She doesn't have a brain in her head. I'll get even'just you wait and see!" And infinitum! Yes, sticks and stones may break my bones, but those broken bones eventually heal. Words cause wounds that may never heal.

Gentle Shepherd ( Lifetime daily devotions-Anabel Gillham)

Like a shepherd He will tend His flock.
In His arms He will gather the lambs,
And carry them in His bosom;
He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
Isaiah 40:11 (NAS)

            Sheep do not just take care of themselves as some might suppose. They require, more than any other class of livestock, endless attention and meticulous care.

Is this the reason that we are likened to "sheep" many times in the Bible? We are definitely in the category labeled "high maintenance"--we need endless attention and meticulous care--agree? And when we foolishly try to get these needs met our way, we are usurping the duty of our Shepherd and trying to fill a responsibility that was never intended for us. The shepherd knows exactly what his flock needs, how to meet those needs, how to protect his sheep from the elements and adversaries--he knows how to take care of them.

            I love this scripture--it gives us such a tender, loving picture of our Shepherd, Jesus Christ. He tends His flock and gives special attention to the "lambs and the nursing ewes." Why are those two singled out? You'll have your own ideas but I would say that the lamb is not old enough to know the basic--and that basic is that you stay close to the Shepherd and He will take care of you. The little lamb is adventurous, unafraid, and ready to meet anything that might spoil his day. Do you relate to that attitude? The nursing ewe is not looking out for herself, she is carefully attending to her baby. She doesn't even realize the dangers ahead. She is focused on her primary responsibility. She needs extra care because she has her hands full with every day duties. Do you relate to her?

          Put a face on the Shepherd in our scripture. What do you see? Tenderness, love, care, gentleness, wisdom, availability, understanding. I imagine He is quietly talking to the flock, maybe singing softly to them, making them aware of His presence. Watch as He tends the flock. Is He competent? Is He interested in every one of them--the big ones and the little ones? What does He do when one falters, strays, or is ruthlessly attacked? Think just what kind of a Shepherd we have. Why oh why, do we try to escape Him? Why do we insist on being on our own? Why do we avoid Him? Why are we afraid to be under His watch care'His control?

            That's the answer! The secret word--control! "I want to live my life the way I want to live it and if I make a mistake I have the intelligence and the fortitude to care for myself. I know what I want and how to get it. No --gentle Shepherd--wanted or needed." "If I can't do this myself I'm certainly NOT going to ask God to help me!"

            I had a lot of deep wounds resulting from doing things "my way." I cried a lot and became well acquainted with depression. I needed "meticulous" care and would have swooned over just a little loving attention. Eventually I realized the folly of my being in control and I put myself under the Shepherd's care. That decision has made all the difference. Not that I have blue skies and sunshine all the time. But, I know now that I have Someone watching over me and walking with me when the thunder rolls and the lightening flashes and the wind howls. More than being just "with me," He lives inside of me to face every second of every day for me--sunshiny days and ominous stormy days.

            Could you imagine that He's talking softly to you--singing maybe--wanting you to be aware of His presence? Remember: He will be as real to you as you will allow Him to be.

Kitchen Cures-Yahoo

When we’re feeling sick, we look at the medicine cabinet to see what pills we can take. We should check out the pantry instead. Many everyday ingredients can treat different ailments and unlike drugs, they are inexpensive and with less side effects.

Honey

Honey is good for cuts and scrapes. It has three powerful components: sugar for absorbing moisture so bacteria can’t survive, hydrogen peroxide to disinfect and propolis to kill bacteria. Plus, the honey dries to form a natural bandage. Just spread thickly over the infected area.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is actually the basis of many skin moisturizers. For eczema, rub olive oil on the skin to keep it from drying out.

Spicy dish

Good for a stuffy nose or congestion, spicy dishes loosen the mucus by making the eyes and nose run.

Garlic

Garlic is antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and an antioxidant so it has many uses. Take garlic when you have a cold to fight the infection and boost the immune system. Mix together minced garlic, warm water and honey for taste. Leave the garlic in the mixture for a few minutes then swallow without chewing. Another way of taking it is by chewing raw garlic cloves with honey. Repeat every two to three hours. Garlic can also be used for athlete’s foot due to its antifungal nature. Simply rub a clove of raw garlic to the affected area.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is used to remove odor so it makes weird sense that you use it for body odor as well. Sprinkling baking soda on your armpits and feet will reduce the moisture you produce.

Chamomile Tea

Wrapping cold, wet tea bags in paper towels can help sooth itchy eyes from colds or hay fever. The tannic acid in tea reduces the itch. Chamomile tea can also be used for calluses. Soak your feet in a diluted chamomile tea bath to soften the hard skin.

Ginger

Ginger has anti-sickness properties so it can help in nausea. Pregnant women can also relieve morning sickness by taking ginger biscuits.

Turmeric

Turmeric is good for treating many skin ailments. It can be used to sooth acne, scrapes and sunburn. Mix several drops of water with ½ teaspoon of powdered turmeric to make a thin paste. Apply the mixture on the blemishes or sunburn and leave for an hour. Be sure to rinse after because turmeric stains.

Rice Water

Bangladeshis have been using rice water as a treatment for diarrhea forever. The proteins in the rice help stabilize the bowel and it’s tastier than any medicine.

Banana

Who knew that aside from being a yummy snack, bananas can be used for bug bites? All you have to do is eat the fruit and apply the banana peel fruit side down on the bite. Hold it there until the itching subsides.
